Top Earning Jobs in Japan for Foreigners (The Truth About English Teaching)
Many people dream of moving to Japan. Anime, culture, safety, and technology make the country very attractive.
But one important question most foreigners ask is:
“What are the highest paying jobs in Japan for foreigners?”
The internet often makes it sound like English teaching is the easiest and best-paying option. The reality is a little different.
In this article, I want to explain which jobs actually pay well in Japan and also share the honest truth about English teaching salaries.

The Reality: English Teaching Is Not a High-Paying Job
Many foreigners who come to Japan start working as ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) or English conversation teachers at Eikaiwa schools. These jobs are popular because the entry requirements are relatively simple. In most cases, you only need a bachelor’s degree, and Japanese ability is often not required, which makes it easier for companies to recruit teachers from overseas.

However, the reality is that English teaching in Japan usually does not pay very high salaries. Most ALT positions offer around ¥220,000 – ¥260,000 per month, while Eikaiwa schools typically pay ¥250,000 ~ ¥300,000 per month.
At first this may sound reasonable, but after paying for taxes, insurance, rent, and living expenses, it can be difficult to save much money. Because salary growth and promotion opportunities are limited, many foreigners eventually try to transition into other careers in Japan after gaining some experience.

For some people, it becomes a stepping stone to other careers in Japan.
The Truth About Salaries in Japan
